Methodologies
To end this educational blog focused on geometry, I think that the best entry could be the methodologies that can be used to learn this concept in a dynamic, active way and above all, to learn about the subject.
Methodology is one of the fundamental elements that make up the curriculum and is understood as the set of strategies, procedures and actions organised and planned by teachers, in a conscious and reflective manner, with the aim of enabling student learning and the achievement of objectives, therefore, it is what will be presented in this entry in order to learn geometry.
The methodological strategies for teaching and learning this mathematical subject usually follow the Van Hiele Model, which in turn follows a series of levels in which learning is broken down. On the other hand, another of the most helpful methodologies when learning geometry is cooperative learning, i.e. grouping students together and asking them to help each other, but not only this, but cooperative learning requires detailed and complex planning in order for them to solve a task.
What it would be like to work in a team while encouraging individual work to reach a common conclusion, which is what will give us mathematical knowledge. So, what is the best way to teach geometry? The learning of geometry should go from the concrete to the abstract, so it is relevant to develop activities with concrete materials such as geoplanes, tangrams, soma cubes, mirror books, polygonal blocks, among others.
Therefore, the key to learning geometry is to go from the concrete to the abstract and this can be achieved with manipulative materials. This means that on those occasions when we do not understand a term, the best way is to use manipulatives, seeing what we are not able to imagine. I hope you find these tips related to geometry helpful and, in general, that you have enjoyed this blog and its entries.
Thank you for joining me on this mathematical journey, don't stop researching geometry because we are surrounded by it! You started as beginners and I hope that at this point of the blog you are all experts! 👏😜📚
