Fashion and Style

Geometry is present in practically all aspects of our lives, as we have seen, it is present in our daily lives and in this case, in the clothes we wear.

In fashion we can observe the geometry of its design, the body, faces, measurements, proportions, patterns, rules... And an infinite number of other concepts that are worked on in fashion and that are directly related to this branch of mathematics.

Starting with our bodies, we have seen how the golden ratio establishes the measurements of our body, as well as how it can have different shapes that are grouped into different classes related to a geometric figure: triangle, rectangle, hourglass, rhombus... Taking this aspect into account, we will begin to design the clothes we will wear.

Geometry is the basis for the graphic design of fashion, architecture and all art when designing the shapes of our composition and drawing with the basic lines and shapes. From the beginning of our design we apply geometry and even an inspiration to apply it as for example in fashion the straight cuts and the shapes and cuts as well as the patterns that we can apply to the design.

In terms of design, the human body is an irregular geometric body, with evident differences in proportions and shapes from one individual to another, but with enough constants to establish certain common features between them. The geometric body similar to the human body is a cylinder and, therefore, the rectangle corresponding to the development of this cylinder could be the rectangle that envelops the human body, with the indispensable modifications to adapt it to the neck, arms and legs. And this is the fundamental, basic idea for structuring our clothing. If we place this rectangle on the pattern-making table, we will have the surface on which to draw the basic pattern of a garment, defining on it specific data on length, width and shape.

Did you know these facts about fashion and geometry? Our whole world is based on geometry.
