Geometry in Photography
Following the theme of this blog and showing curiosities of real life in which geometry plays a fundamental role, we continue with photography. In this discipline geometry, as impossible as it may seem, has a lot to do with it.
In addition to having a tendency within photography, geometry encompasses much more in this discipline.
As for the usefulness of geometry in photography, we see how the horizontal and vertical lines found in the spaces that surround us, for example, can serve as a guide for correctly framing photographs, placing them in a correct position with respect to the horizon and achieving the veracity and verisimilitude that this creative speciality is capable of boasting.
On the other hand, the repetitions, patterns and other sequences of shapes that can be achieved with the correct application of the rules of geometry make it possible to generate very interesting photographic series in which it is possible to exploit the different technical possibilities of the camera.
As I mentioned earlier, geometric photography is a style of photography that focuses on the geometric lines, patterns and shapes around us. Although these images are often found in architectural photography, anything can be the subject: from vast cityscapes to the patterns present in nature. The only important thing is that the photographer takes advantage of the beauty of geometry to make the images interesting..
For many experts in geometric photography, the pleasure lies in showing the world in an orderly and flawless way. "I like my photos to show how I would like our lives to be. I would love for life to have right angles and be divided into quadrants that can be easily cut into a space," says New York photographer Nikolaos George.
As this photographer explains, observation is an essential element when taking this type of photograph, so we would be working on more aspects besides those strictly related to mathematics.
I leave here a reflection on observing our environment more, and look for any geometric element that we can find in it. If we count them for 5 minutes, it will probably be more than 30. Try it.
